Scott Tipton has sold out the working people of Colorado to pay for Trump’s huge tax breaks for corporations and the top 1%. Tipton votes with Trump and special interests 96% of the time, and that’s unacceptable.
DIANE MITSCH BUSH RAISES OVER $729,000 IN THIRD QUARTER, OUTRAISING SCOTT TIPTON BY NEARLY TWO-FOLD
Steamboat Springs, Colorado – Today, Diane Mitsch Bush announced that her campaign has raised more than $729,000 in the third quarter of 2018. This is nearly double what Scott Tipton raised in the same period, which was only $396,601. The period covers the months of July, August, and September and is Mitsch Bush’s 4th quarterly filing of the 2018 election cycle.
Mitsch Bush has not accepted any contributions from corporate political action committees (PACs), citing the need to lead by example on campaign finance reform, but nearly a quarter of Tipton’s total contributions this reporting period have come from the PACs of major financial, pharmaceutical, and energy corporations, including Koch Industries, Black Hills Energy, Pfizer, and Goldman Sachs.
More than 40,000 individual donors have given contributions averaging just $16 to Mitsch Bush’s campaign for U.S. Congress, with over 98% of total contributions less than $200. The Mitsch Bush campaign has over $400,000 on hand and has raised over $1,370,000 since announcing her campaign in July 2017.
“I have been blown away by the grassroots energy that we have seen for our campaign,” said Mitsch Bush. “It is clear that the 3rd Congressional District is craving a Representative who listens to and fights for their interests, not for big corporations. Scott Tipton’s record is riddled with votes against veterans, seniors, farmers and ranchers, students, and working families — and our campaign’s momentum clearly shows that the people in our District have had enough.”
With the release of these fundraising numbers, it is clear that the race for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District has become the most competitive U.S. House race in the state, with Mitsch Bush having the momentum behind her to unseat Tipton and flip this congressional seat.
Scott Tipton’s votes on veterans epitomize his failed promises to the people of this District. Tipton often professes to fight for veterans and veteran’s care, but a closer examination of his record reveals that’s just not the case. This glaring discrepancy between Tipton’s promises and his record exists for just about every other issue that matters to the people of the 3rd Congressional District: seniors, agriculture, the environment, healthcare, working people – the list goes on. Tipton knows he can’t run on his record because his votes are unpopular with the people of the District.
The people of this District have a right to know about the reality of Tipton’s record. On all sides of the political spectrum, Americans respect the veterans who have served our country. They deserve full access to healthcare and other benefits for their public service. Failing to honor these promises as a Representative speaks to the broader failure to address the needs of the people in our District.
Here is our first General Election ad!
This is a powerful reminder that people in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District count on benefits like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security – all of which Scott Tipton has voted to cut. These benefits are under threat because the Republican-led Congress now needs money to pay for its costly “tax cut” which gave the top 1% a major tax break while adding $1.9 trillion to the deficit. Tipton voted for that bill and must be held accountable.
Two of the main concerns I’ve heard over the past year and half revolve around economic opportunity and health and benefit coverage. People are angry that Scott Tipton has voted again and again to take away healthcare coverage and increase healthcare costs here in our District. They feel left behind and forgotten and they are insulted by Tipton’s vote for the Tax Bill. Regular people know that it overwhelmingly benefits Corporations and the top 1%, not them.
This campaign isn’t taking any Corporate PAC money so I want to thank all of our grassroots donors, over 38,000 of them to date who have given an average of $26.04. Your energy and generosity is leading this campaign — on the ground and over the airwaves.

I had a lovely time in Hotchkiss the other day at a Town Hall hosted by Crawford Indivisible. However, this event wasn’t initially supposed to be a Town Hall.
Scott Tipton did not respond to repeated requests by Crawford Indivisible to participate in this debate and, not surprisingly, did not show up. Constituents deserve to hear from their Representatives, who are *their* employees. Our job is to listen to people and their concerns and solve the problems they face.
Political winds blow every day, but I’m so excited that after our first debate last night at Club 20 Nate Silver’s 538 has our race listed as a “Toss Up”. When we first started this District was “Solid Republican”, but we’ve slowly worked to change that. We’re a campaign that’s powered by people, not polls, but we have a real chance to flip this seat and 538 is catching on. We need boots on the ground, people calling on the phone, and all the support we can get.
Keep it up team! Only 58 days to go and we’ve got a lot of work to do.
Last night’s debate in Grand Junction was awesome! Diane made it clear that Tipton’s regressive policies are no longer welcome here in CD3. She made sure that he was held accountable for his many votes that have hurt the people of our district. We’re sure she swayed more than a few votes that night. Here are some of our favorite quotes from Diane:
“I will oppose, STRONGLY oppose, any attempt to sell off our public lands, or transfer them to the states.”
“I want questions answered.”
“I don’t work for big lobbyists, I don’t work for the party or for party leadership. I have always acted in the interests of my constituents. That is what you can count on me to do in the United States Congress.”
“You asked me a question, let me answer.”
And here’s some press coverage of the night:
With Colorado’s 3rd District being the largest District in the entire country that isn’t an entire state (it’s 54,000 square miles), we wanted to create an inclusive and informative digital space where everyone can really meet and interact with Diane. We’re always on the road, but we want to take you along with us for the ride.
Our new site includes where Diane stands on important issues, her impressive record, updates from the campaign trail, future events, volunteer opportunities, and more.
Check back for press updates, news from the road, and thoughts from Diane as our team and our awesome volunteers work to flip this district!
